The Saturday Club was set up in 2016 to provide a fun activity for our children, giving them a break from therapies and education etc. There are 12 children in the group – 9 boys and 3 girls aged from 11 to 16.
The group meets in Trim one Saturday per month and go by bus to Blanchardstown, alternating trips between the cinema and bowling. The bus is an important part of the trip as it allows the kids to be sociable and is particularly important when they’re going to the cinema.
Parents generally don’t accompany the children, allowing them to be independent. However, we have a rota where one parent will go on each trip so that they can see what’s involved.
We have a group of volunteers – 8 transition year students and 5 adult volunteers (2 of which are teachers). The transition year students are really important to us as it’s a great way of educating young people about DS and also our kids love that age group.
We have about 8 trips per year.
If your child is aged between 11 and 16 and is interested in joining the Club please let us know.
