Down Syndrome Ireland – Louth / Meath Branch

World Down Syndrome Day

World Down Syndrome Day

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), 21 March, is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.

The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

We encourage communities, schools, clubs, companies and individuals to choose their own activities and events to celebrate WDSD and to help raise awareness of this very special celebration. Together we can challenge perceptions of Down syndrome and enable people with Down syndrome to speak up, be heard and be respected as valued members of society as they strive to achieve their goals and pursue their passions.

How can you help celebrate WDSD and raise awareness?

We encourage everyone to raise awareness about WDSD in their school, community, club or workplace to get people talking about Down syndrome and help people #SeeTheAbility.

It’s easy to do so come on, join in! Here are some ideas to get you started:

World Down Syndrome Day is just around the corner this March 21st.

Rock Your Socks 4 DSILMB

The #RockYourSocks campaign exists to raise awareness of Down syndrome.

All you need to do is choose some socks that are going to get noticed. Get your friends, class mates and colleagues to join in too.

World Down Syndrome Day is Tuesday 21st March and we in Down Syndrome Ireland Louth Meath Branch invite you to “Rock Your Socks 4 DSILMB”.

Our campaign

On World Down Syndrome Day 2025, we call for people and organisations around the world to be…

The theme is the message that we are asking supporters to share on and around World Down Syndrome Day, 21 March 2025.

We call on all Governments to…

Improve Our Support Systems

Everyone needs support sometimes.

People with Down syndrome need support to live and be included in the community, like everyone else.

Families also need support, as they are often supporting their family member with Down syndrome.

Support is a key human right that helps make other rights possible.

The support that we need is different for each person.

We have the right to support that meets our needs and gives us choice, control and dignity.

Do whatever you like to raise awareness and funds for Down Syndrome Ireland Louth Meath Branch. Your donations can be accepted at https://www.idonate.ie/event/rockyoursocks4dsilmb or on our Donate page on our website https://dsilmb.ie/donate/.
