Next Steps After 18 – Independence Workshop

As young people with Down syndrome approach adulthood, families often face important decisions about education, employment, living arrangements, rights, and long-term supports. This workshop is designed to provide clear guidance, practical information, and reassurance during this significant life transition.

Join us for an informative and interactive evening focused on understanding what independence really means after 18 and how to plan confidently for the future.

The workshop will be delivered by Gina Grant, Branch Advocacy Coordinator with Down Syndrome Ireland. Gina brings extensive experience supporting individuals and families as they navigate adulthood, rights, and advocacy services.

  • Transitioning into adulthood — practical and emotional supports

  • Options after 18, including further education, employment, supported living, and community participation

  • 2023 legislation on decision-making support and individual rights

  • Entitlements and supports available to long-term carers

  • Online safety and scam awareness

This session will include opportunities for questions and discussion.
